and a TOF-party

The band kept looking for a new banjo player. Sam had been chosen as leader of the band in 1987, and he heard of the demise of the Stevedore Jazzband. During the previous period, Marcel Degeling of that band had alerady played as a guest at gigs at the Old Timershow in 1998 in Venhuizen and the Dixieland Jamboree, organized by George Alma, on Sunday 10 april 1988. After a couple of impressive talks Marcel became the new banjo player of the Old Fashioners.

The first official gig with Marcel: Dixie-Sunday 17 April 1988, in the Nieuwe Doelen. The band organized this event for a number of years as a warming up for the jazzfestival. This happening also partly inspired the start of the Sgt. Pepper’s Jazz-Club in 1993.
