Then fate strikes: in a busy 1990 the band is told days before the 17th Jazzfestival Enkhuizen (11, 12 and 13 May 1990) that cornet player Wim is severely ill and cannot play. The band starts a frantic search for a replacement, as the gigs ahead require swift action. They find Dick Roelofs, a very experienced trumpet player, and a "Bix" adept. Dick had been playing with the Dixie Disciples, a band that played as introduction to Louis Armstrong's All Stars playing in Blokker in the Sixties. Having found Dick the band was fine, but after a gig in Alkmaar ( Dixienight, 23 May 1990 ) they get the horrible news that Wim had passed away.

A lot of hard work ( rehearsals) was done to create a new band with Dick, and it showed off: the band started to sound tighter and more stable.
