1994: 20 years
This band likes to party, if you didn't notice already. The band has a tight relation with Sgt.Pepper's Jazzclub, as Sam is the chairman of this club. So, the men in the band decide to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band at the Peperhuis in Enkhuizen, the venue used by Sgt. Pepper's Jazzclub in those days for their monthly gigs. Party animals as they are, they hire 3 bands to fill the 2 rooms at the Peperhuis. The party is held on November 19th, 1994, on a long, and hot Saturdaynight.
It costs a few pennies, such a party, but you get something back! The party sports
about 400 people, among whom ex-bandmembers, musical colleagues from other orchestra's,
and last but not least, our greatest fan, Toon Menting and his lovely wife Gonnie from
Oisterwijk, Brabant. Shortly before Toon had 'discovered' the Old Fashioners, and he loved
them. Their hospitality was beyond words, and many a time their home served as a save haven
for the band when playing in Brabant or even further south, a haven were food and drinks
had no end.
Back to the party: Four bands play this evening: the Hot Jazz Ambassadors from Hoorn ( with ex TOF banjo-player Auk Veenstra), from Brabant the JoJo Swingband mastered by Joep Peeters, and from the United Kingdom Phil Mason’s New Orleans All-Stars. Due to illness, Christine Tyrrell couldn't come, but she was replaced by Marjan -Big Mama- Steenhof. Of course, The Old Fashioners play as well. This proved to be an unforgettable, sold out night with brilliant music.
