A new lineup
In 2002 already, Jaap Mook announced he wanted to leave the band, but it will take year before
he actually is replaced. While the band starts recording a new CD in 2002, reeds player
Will falls ill for a couple of months. At gigs he is replaced by Jeroen de Graaff of the
Poultry Jazzband.
Jeroen plays his first gig at the Charlestown Jazzclub in Molenhoek on 20 January 2002.
Everybody is so pleased with the result, that he becomes the seventh Old Fashioner.
Soon the band would have only 6 members again, as Will announces in a talk with Marcel and Sam on Wednesday 11 september 2002, that he wants to leave the band. So, Jeroen is the only reeds player left in the band, and apart from tenor sax, he also picks up the clarinet again.
By the end of 2002, the band is able to welcome Jaap's replacement : Richard Heeres leaves the
Hot Revival Stompers, wanting to play trumpet again, as he was playing banjo in the Stompers.
After a few talks he joins the Old Fashioners, so Jaap can retire confidently.
On Sunday 3 January 2003 Jaap says farewell to the band at the annual New Years gig at the Stadskroeg in Hoorn. The 'fresh' trumpet player Richard has his first gig with the band at th Jazzclub in Kampen on Sunday 23 January 2003. The band has given itself about a year to build this new formation, and during 2003 it gets clear that this rejuvenation - the average age goes to forty again - really pays off. The repertoire is enriched with some Jump and Jive songs of Louis Prima and Sam Butera and the Witnesses. The band swings as never before.
